Wolverines to meet Westwood in Regional Final

FONDA - Amanda Mahrt smacked a run-scoring single with the bases loaded for the game's only run to lead River Valley to a tense 1-0 Class 1A Regional Semifinal victory over Newell-Fonda here Friday night.

With the win, the Wolverines advanced to a Regional Final match-up against Maple Valley Conference foe Westwood Monday night. The Rebels shut out Granville Spalding 11-0 in the Regional Semifinals at Moville Friday night.

River Valley pitcher Jody Peterson pitched a strong seven innings for the shut-out win, allowing four hits and no walks, and one strikeout.

Lauren Devereaux took the mound loss for the Mustangs, giving up one run on six hits and 10 strikeouts.

Newell-Fonda hangs up the cleats with a 28-10 record, while River Valley forges on with a 15-15 mark and some post-season momentum.

Neither the RV nor Westwood team have ever been to the Iowa State Softball Tournament.
