Ege, Ruehle earn INA All-State honors

DES MOINES - Cherokee senior Cory Ege was named the Class 2A Team Captain for the 2007 Iowa Newspaper Association's All-State Baseball teams announced Tuesday.
The Braves' junior pitcher, Kyle Ruehle, earned second-team All-State honors as a pitcher, after fashioning a 9-1 record and a 1.46 earned run average this season for the State Champion Braves.
Ege, a superb pitcher/shortstop and four-year varsity regular for the Braves, compiled a perfect 10-0 record on the mound this season for the 31-2 Braves, with a skimpy 1.30 ERA. Ege also batted a blistering .575, blasted eight home runs and tallied 54 RBI. He will enroll at the University of Northern Iowa this fall on a baseball scholarship.
Other Lakes Conference performers earning All-State distinction included senior Mitch McCabe of Storm Lake (3A infielder), Spencer senior Will Glienke (3A pitcher), and Estherville-LC senior Brad Deling (2A outfielder).
In Class 1A, Remsen St. Mary's senior Andy Steichen was named as a first-team infielder, and teammate Danny Harpenau was named a third-team first baseman.
Le Mars Gehlen senior Mitch Kurth was named to the first team as a utility player, and teammate Alex Loutsch was a third-team pick as a pitcher.
