An estimated 5 to 6 inches of very welcome rain fell over the weekend, causing the postponement of Aurelia's Dog Daze celebration on Saturday. However, the annual event was still held on the scheduled "rain date" of Sunday, and, with the exception of the "inflatables," which were not present in the park as hoped, the other activities were held as scheduled. The Heritage Bank served free popcorn and Maple Valley Hardware free lemonade.

Wesley Woodke of Schaller was the "Judges Choice" in all three categories of the Barbecue Cook-off - beef, pork, and "other." Mark Beavers' Lonestar Welding of Galva won the Best Showmanship and People's Choice awards.

The Car, Truck, and Tractor Show "Best of Show" winners were Ernie Glienke, with his 1957 820 John Deere tractor, Matt Fredericksen (1968 Camaro) and Dave Schossow (1980 Corvette), and Wayne Whitmore, with his 1975 Chevy Half-ton pickup. Event organizer Dick Vogt said he hopes to add "Modified" and "Motorcycle" classes to next year's event.

While the Aurelia Spanish Club served a delicious meal of barbecued meat (selected by diners from the barbecue cook-off participants), beans, chips, dessert and drink, a volunteer group of Aurelia Community members, directed by Jeanette Hinkeldey, played a brief concert to close the evening's activities.
