Culver unveils E-85 fleet

Monday, August 13, 2007

Iowa Corn CEO Craig Floss joined Governor Chet Culver, Department of Public Safety Commissioner Eugene T. Meyer, and Iowa State Patrol Colonel Robert O. Garrison to announce the first order of E-85-fueled Ford Crown Victoria patrol cars.

On a hot and humid Iowa summer day, Governor Culver reaffirmed his commitment to growing biofuels in Iowa through the addition of iconic gold state trooper vehicles.

"There is no more visible or widely-known symbol of state government in our communities and on our highways than an Iowa State Patrol car," said Gov. Culver. "And here in Iowa, where renewable energy has transformed our state, it is only fitting that these vehicles run on clean-burning, Iowa-grown ethanol."

The Iowa State Patrol now has 10 patrol cars that are E85 compatible and an additional 119 E85- compatible cars on order. Gov. Culver also announced that from this year forward all Ford Crown Victoria cars ordered for the State Patrol will be E85 compatible. That means in just three years, the entire fleet will be able to run on the 85% corn-based fuel.

Department of Public Safety Commissioner Gene Meyers and Iowa State Patrol Colonel Robert Garrison also spoke about the growing availability of E85 in Iowa.

Iowa Corn was on hand to supply a visual of 1- 56 pound bushel of corn that can be converted to three gallons of ethanol. Craig Floss also spoke to the crowd about Iowa Corn's promotion of ethanol in Iowa for more than 30 years.

The Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB), made up of 17 Iowa growers, collects over $8 million annually to develop and defend markets, fund research, and provide education about corn and corn products. The Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) is a membership organization lobbying on agricultural issues on behalf of its 6,000 members.
