Galva to celebrate 125th birthday

The town of Galva is celebrating its 125th birthday on the weekend of Sept. 1-2, with numerous activities and events planned.

The event kicks off with a big parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Dinner will be served in the park at noon, and other activities that afternoon include judging of the beard-growing contest; a quilt show at the Methodist Church, an art show at the Galva Library; a tour of the Galva school; kids' games in the park, and "Treasures of the Past" at 115 S. Main Street

An antique tractor and car show will be held both days at the park, and an Alumni Banquet will be held at the Middle School on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

A street dance, featuring the group "Something New," will take place on Second Street at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The weekend will wrap up with an Ecumenical worship service on the Middle School football field at 10 a.m.on Sunday, followed by dinner at the park, a show by the Farmall Promenade (square dancing tractors from Nemaha) at 2 p.m., on Second Street, a pedal tractor pull at 3 p.m., and closing ceremonies at 5 p.m., with dedication of the Galva Legion Memorial at the Galva Cemetery East.
