Mary Beck Doupe, 100, of Cherokee, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007 at 10:58 p.m. at Careage Hills in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 7, at 10:30, at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ray Kruger will officiate and burial will be in the Afton Township Cemetery, rural Cherokee. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will be today from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home.

Mary was born Nov. 22, 1906 to John and Emma (Riley) Beck on the home farm in Afton Township, Cherokee. She attended high school in Cherokee, graduating in the class of 1925. She entered nursing school at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City.

She transferred to the Cook County School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill., graduating in April of 1930. She then attended the Michael Reese Hospital School of Anesthesia for four months and passed the required examinations on Oct. 1, 1931. She was united in marriage to Montiford Doupe on February 6, 1933.

Mary spent most of her life as a nurse at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee. She was employed by Dr. Thomas Gary and had also worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute. She spent most of her life on the Beck home farm until moving to Careage Hills in November of 1997.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on Dec. 12, 1987, a twin brother and four other brothers Riley, Arthur, Edwin, and John Beck, and a sister Bonnie Shaw.
