KINGSLEY - Coach Scott Mitchell's Galva-Holstein Lady Pirates had an excellent evening at Kingsley on Thursday, first defeating BC-IG 25-21, 25-21, 26-24, then beating host Kingsley-Pierson 28-26, 25-21, 25-15.
In speaking about the BC-IG match, Mitchell said, "We served very well tonight, and had them scrambling at times... it was a very workmanlike effort... we need to play with a little more energy at times."
In that match, Lindsey Joslin had 17 kills, and Lanae Broesder had 30 assists. Lindsey Joslin also had 14 digs and four ace serves to pace the team, and Ashley Buell matched her 14 digs.
In the K-P match, Mitchell got the energy and enthusiasm he was looking for. "We hit well, with 37 kills and only eight errors," he said. "Our setter did a nice job of mixing her sets and keeping a much taller K-P team guessing."
Joslin and her sister Heather led the team in kills with 12 and 10, respectively, and Alissa McGuuire accounted for seven. Broesder had 30 assists, Lindsey Joslin and Buell had 12 and seven digs respectively, and Brandi Wagoner had two blocks. Broesder and Brea Slaybaugh had two ace serves apiece.
Coach Mitchell said, "It was two good wins tonight against two very good teams." The double win boosted the Lady Pirates' record in the tough Maple Valley Conference to 6-1. They are 8-3 overall.
