EVERLY - The South O'Brien Wolverines played the Clay Central-Everly Mavericks here on Thursday night, and SOS coach Denise Erdmann called it a "close match."
CC-E took game one by a 25-21 score, then South O'Brien won a tough 27-25 game. Game three went to Clay Central-Everly, 25-17, and the teams then battled in game four, with the Mavericks eventually prevailing, 26-24.
Briana Shriver had 16 assists and two stuff blocks for the Wolverines; Carrie Egdorf, Chelsie Rohrs, Reagan Ebel, and Rachel Tilley led the offense at the net with six, five, four, and four kills, respectively; Aphton Roberts, Egdorf, Ebel, and Kari Wester led diggers; and Christine Haden, Ebel, and Roberts all had ace serves, with Haden having two.
Coach Erdmann said, "we're continuing to serve well (95%) and dig well. We had a few net errors and hitting errors, especially in "serve receive," and that hurt us."
Erdmann concluded her summary by saying, "The girls played hard, and battled for the points we earned. The girls handled the pressure of a close-scoring match well."
South O'Brien is now 1-5 overall, and 1-1 in War Eagle Conference play. Their next match will be Tuesday against Akron-Westfield at Paullina.
