Brave places fourth in rugged Le Mars field
BRUNSVILLE - Nate O'Bryan's fourth-place finish led the Cherokee cross country Braves to a seventh-place finish in the team race at the Le Mars Cross Country Invitational run on the Brunsville Golf Course here Tuesday night.
O'Bryan was clocked in 18:12 to place fourth in the boys race, followed by teammates Nick O'Bryan 20th in 19:29, Derek Rupp 47th in 22:24, Zach Mosbach 48th in 22:26, and Cole Renken 56th in 23:30.
Sioux City Heelan won the team title with 46 points, followed by Orange City Unity Christian 82, Sioux City North 98, Le Mars 107, MOC-Floyd Valley 114, Sergeant Bluff-Luton 136, Cherokee 175, Sioux Central 178, and Le Mars Gehlen 204.
In the boys JV race for Cherokee, Zach Dodd was 43rd in 25:07, and John Bieber was 62nd in 27:13.
In boys junior high action for Cherokee, Conner Ogren was eighth in 13:49, and Jaden Lux was ninth in 14:07.
In girls junior high competition, Shelby Rahn was fourth in 11:03, Shayla Keyser eighth in 12:38, Cheyenne Mortenson 14th in 13:33, Claudia Campuzano 15th in 13:38, Rebecka Warner 18th in 13:52, and Abby Hayes 19th in 15:34.
"In the boys varsity race, Nate showed that his Spirit Lake finish was just the start of a great season," said Cherokee veteran coach Deb Hankens. "He looked very comfortable in his fourth-place finish. Nick looked good, too,receiving the last medal (20th)."
The Cherokee boys run in the Galva-Holstein Invitational Saturday in Holstein, and at Storm Lake on Tuesday. There is no WHS girls cross country team this season.
