HOLSTEIN - The Galva-Holstein Lady Pirates dropped a volleyball match to West Monona here last week, 3 games to 1, with game scores of 19-25, 25-19, 19-25, and 21-25.
The hosts regrouped, however, to then defeat Woodbury Central 3-1. Game scores were 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-13.
G-H coach Scott Mitchell said his team showed "quite a bit of nervousness and some poor play" in what looked like - and was - the first game of the season against the Spartans.
"West Monona kept the pressure on G-H and pretty much controlled the match, except for game 2," said Mitchell.
Lindsey Joslin had nine kills and 15 digs for Galva-Holstein, and her sister Heather had 12 kills and 13 digs. Lanae Broesder had 22 assists.
In their second match, against Woodbury Central, the Lady Pirates gave "a much better effort," said Mitchell. "We did a good job of playing defense and passing the ball, which allowed us to get into our offense."
Lindsey Joslin had five ace serves, 10 kills, and 18 digs in the match, while Heather Joslin had 20 kills and 10 digs. Lanae Broesder again paced the assists with 44. Also of note, Ashley Buell had 20 digs, and Alisa McGuire nine kills.
