HOLSTEIN - East Sac County (Sac City/Wall Lake View-Auburn) defeated Carroll, 25-15, 25-18, in the finals of the Galva-Holstein Volleyball Classic here on Saturday Sept. 1 to win the tournament championship.
The Lady Pirates had defeated Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn 21-10, 21-3, and Ar-We-Va 21-19, 21-15 in Pool Play, and also dropped a tough three-game match to Battle Creek-Ida Grove, 13-21, 21-17,13-15.

Galva-Holstein Coach Scott Mitchell said his team "struggled early in pool play - our intensity was not very good at times." He also felt the Lady Pirates struggled blocking, saying that "not only did we not get a lot of blocks, we didn't get very many touches on their hits to slow the ball down."
In the semi-final match against East Sac County, Mitchell felt that the team "played with much better intensity, and had a chance to win the first game." "Hopefully," the coach concluded,"we continue to play at that level."
Galva-Holstein's Outside Hitter Heather Joslin was named to the All-Tournament team, along with Rachel Reicks of Carroll, Jessica Hanson of West Monona, Katelyn Enrulat of BC-IG and Sarah Tjaden and Mandy Aschinger from the champion East Sac County team.
