Colleen A. Johnson, 72, of Washta, died on Friday, Sept. 14, 2007 in the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with Pastor Jim Steen officiating. Burial was at the Sunset View Cemetery in Washta. Boothby Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Colleen was born Nov. 20, 1934 at Cushing, to Johan Albin and Elsie Hanson. She graduated from Quimby High School in 1953. She was married to Henry Johnson on Sept. 14, 1958 in Cherokee. Her home was in Washta where she had lived since 2002, prior to this on a farm in Afton Township. She had worked as a secretary for Simonsens in Quimby until her marriage. In 1994 she started working for Rhoadside Greenhouses as a receptionist until her retirement in 2002. For many years she played the accordion for dances and other social activities in the area.

In 1968 they became the parents of a son Charles Brown who was 10 years old at the time. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Her Church was a very important part of her life. She loved life, loved to laugh, have fun and enjoyed friends or family stopping for coffee. Her family was very special to her and cherished the time spent with them. She also enjoyed dancing, baking, knitting and just having a good time.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

She is survived by her husband Henry, and one son Charles and his wife Holly of Burnsville, Minn.; two grandchildren Lindsey and Chasson; one brother Lonnie Hanson and his wife Pat of Washta; four nieces: Cheryl & David Fluke and their two children Jessica & Dylan; Cara & Andy Ross and their children Jade & Trevor; Michelle Hanson, Amy Hanson and her special friend Erick, other relatives and friends.
