MOVILLE - The potent Woodbury Central football team scored in all four quarters on the way to a 33-8 defeat of River Valley in Class A District I action here Friday night.
The visitng Wolverines scored their lone touchdown in the fourth period on an Ethan Byers run. Byers also carried it in for the two-point conversion run.
The winning Wildcats' quarterback Jeremy Rodgers accounted for three TDs, two on the ground and one passing.
River Valley totaled 73 yards rushing on 37 carries, and quarterback Zach Hullinger completed 8-12 passes for 81 yards and one interception. Byers led RV in rushing with 16 carries for 25 yards and one TD, followed by Tyrel McCrea five hauls for 17 yards, and Chance Cullen four carries for 13 yards.
Woodbury Central rushed 29 times for 196 yards, and Rodgers completed 9-21 passes for 88 yards.
Leading receivers for the Wolverines were Anthony Volkert with four catches for 52 yards, and Byers two catches for 16 yards.
Leading tacklers for RV were Chance Cullen with 10, and Samuel Lundt and McCrea five apiece.
River Valley totaled eight first downs and the Wildcats had 10.
"We didn't take care of assignments very well," said RV coach Kent Bass. "Emotionally, I thought we were ready to play, but sometimes emotions can take over and you forget about the little things.
"Rodgers is a great athlete and a great weapon for Woodbury Central. We had a hard time shutting him down."
The 1-2 Wolverines host Le Mars Gehlen Friday night.
