The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn volleyball team competed hard against four quality opponents at Saturday's Cherokee Invitational, losing 21-19, 21-8 to host Cherokee; 21-19, 21-16 to Sioux City East; 21-12, 21-15 to River Valley; and 25-20, 25-13 to Hinton.

Ashley Schneider led the Eagles in serving for the day with a 34-34 effort and nine aces, followed by Samantha Taylor 23-26 and four aces, and Andrea Doeden 19-21 and four aces. Taylor also led in serve receptions with a 56-71 effort, while Alex Hoefling was 27-37.

Ashley Henke led in blocks with 13 assists and four solos, and Jessica Zubrod had four assists and nine solos. Taylor led in digs with 37, and Schneider came up with 17.

Kaylee Dreckman was sets leader with 140, including 37 ace assists.

Among hitting leaders were Doeden, Zubrod, Taylor, Henke, and Beth Mohning.

"Once again the girls played well enough," said MMC coach Carla Weber. "Our passing has to improve, we were 190-263 for 72 percent. It's frustrating to watch the girls play well but not take it to the next level and win."

MMC is 1-13 in matches so far this season against rugged competition, and 8-33 in games played. The eagles play in the Granville Spalding Tournament Saturday in Alton.
