The River Valley School Board voted Scott Carnes as the president of the Board and Terry Jensen as vice president following the swearing- in of newly elected board members Kirk Utesch and Kim Norris on Monday evening Sept. 17.
Mary Todd was honored for her six years of service on the board.
Appointments were made to committees. Carnes was appointed the Iowa Association of School Boards delegate.
The board approved Allison Bass as high school football cheerleading sponsor. The board approved a contract for Jason Roggatz as special education aide.
The board accepted the resignation of Dean Norris as softball coach.
The board heard a report on hail damage. Board members decided to repair some vehicles and not to repair some based on the age of the vehicle. The board tabled action on roof repair pending further information being provided.
Superintendent Julie DeStigter reported that the cement would be poured for the bus barn in Washta on Tuesday.
The board approved using a principal mentoring service offered by the School Administrators of Iowa. Even when a district does not have a first time principal, the district must have a mentoring plan in place.
The board approved attending an educational forum sponsored by the Maple Valley and Anthon Oto districts. Those two districts are whole grade sharing partners.
