Aurelia girls fall in triangular

Thursday, September 27, 2007

ALTA - The Aurelia volleyball squad played a triangular with Alta and Storm Lake St. Mary's here on Sept. 17, and Bulldog coach Tim Ireland said his team "made too many mistakes to win" the tight matches.

The Bulldog girls lost in five games to St. Mary's by game scores of 25-18, 20-25, 15-25, 25-20, 6-15, and were beaten by the host Cyclones 22-25, 9-25, 20-25.

Arielle Megrath and Tiffany Johnson led Bulldog hitters, with Megrath going 37/40 with five kills and Johnson 25-27 with two kills. Top setters were Jodi Husman with 48, four for aces, and Erin Laursen with 32, four for aces.

Sophomore Ashley Anderson was 14/15 serving and Husman 8/9 with two ace serves.

On defense, Shelby Dierenfield had three blocks and Laursen two.

Coach Ireland felt his team needs to "improve their passing and serving to start putting wins on the board. They have had some close games, but need to play better mentally."

The Bulldogs play conference rival Alta again on Sept, 20, on the Cyclones' home court.
