South O'Brien knocks off Gehlen

Thursday, September 27, 2007

PAULLINA - The South O'Brien Wolverines beat the Gehlen Catholic Jays in War Eagle volleyball action here onn Sept. 18, three games to one. Game scores were 25-12, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22.

Chelsie Rohrs led the Wolverines in hitting with 14 kills, while Katie Tesch had nine, and Carrie Egdorf four. Briana Shriver had 16 assists and Kari Wester 14. Wester also had two ace serves, as did her teammate Reagan Ebel.

On defense, Carrie Egdorf had 27 digs, Aphton Roberts 17, and Reagan Ebel 14, while Rachel Tilley, with five, and Rohrs with four, led the team in blocks.

Wolverine coach Denise Erdmann was excited about the team's win. She said the team was able to capitalize on Gehlen errors in game one. After having "a few too many hitting errors" in the game two loss, the team was able to correct that for the final two games.

Coach Erdmann said the team's "serving was tough, and we were able to get a few big blocks when we needed it. We played very scrappy tonight."

Erdmann summed up the evening by stating, "it was an exciting win for the program, as we won at all three levels (varsity, JV, C Team)."

The win boosted the Wolverines' season mark to 3-9, and the rapidly improving squad is 2-2 in War Eagle Conference play. They next take on Spalding Catholic in War Eagle Conference play at Granville on Sept. 25.
