The River Valley Wolverines played Maple Valley Conference volleyball matches on Sept.17 and Sept.18, traveling to Lawton-Bronson for the first match, and hosting Odebolt-Arthur in the second.

In the L-B match, the Wolverines got down 2-0, but "showed a lot of heart," in the words of coach Marlene Baumann, winning games three and four. The deciding fifth game was a close one, but L-B won 15-13 to take the match, three games to two. Game scores were 13-25, 20-25, 25-19, 27-25, 13-15.

Leading Wolverine servers were Charlee Brewer, 18/19 with three aces; Kaylea Simons, 11/11 with one ace; and Katie Carnes, 15/15 with one ace serve. Carnes paced setters with 30 assists, and Jody Peterson (48/58, 10 kills), Emily Todd (31/34, 10 kills), and Alissa Slota (33/42, eight kills) led the team's attack. Charlee Brewer had 22 digs on defense.

Coach Baumann's summary of the Tuesday match against Odebolt-Arthur was brief and to the point: " (There's) not much to say," said Baumann," except we didn't show up for the game mentally. It was not good."

Game scores were 16-25, 20-25, 25-20, 22-25, as O-A won the match, three games to one.

Leading RV's service were Carnes (19/20, two aces), Brewer (15/17, one ace), and Todd (13/14, four aces). Attack leaders were Todd (22/31, 17 kills), Peterson 18/22, five kills), and Slota (19/23, nine kills). Carnes also had 20 assists, and defensively Todd blocked three O-A shots and Brewer had 14 digs.
