Martha Haritage, 82, of Dakota Dunes, S.D., died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, in the Holy Spirit Retirement Home, Sioux City, following a lengthy illness.
Services were held Friday Sept. 28, 2007, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee, Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee.
Martha was born Feb. 1, 1925 in Waterloo, Quebec, Canada to Oscar and Helene (Bleau) Descostes. On Dec. 29, 1947 she was united in marriage to James W. Haritage in Quebec City, Canada. They made their home in Cherokee for 48 years prior to their move to Dakota City. After completing business school training, Martha was employed as a secretary for the Quebec Ministry of Health. She also worked for the Iowa Farm Bureau and the American Public Welfare Association. In 1989 she retired after working 19 years in the accounting department at the Hy-Vee Distribution Center in Cherokee.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband, daughters Susan Richardson and her husband, Bill, of Randleman, N.C., and Deborah Haritage and her husband Jay Lenhart of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Laura and Ben Lenhart; and a sister, Pauline Brunnelle and her husband, Yves, of Sillery, Quebec.
