RUTHVEN - The Aurelia volleyball team was "due for a good night," thought coach Tim Ireland, and Sept. 24th was that night as the Bulldogs beat Ruthven-Ayrshire 3-1.
The Bulldogs lost game one on the Raiders' home court, but then rebounded to take the next three games and win the non-conference match, three games to one.
Game scores were 22-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.
Leah Kai led the Bulldogs' hitting attack with a 43/48 performance and five kills, and Arielle Megrath was 26/28 with seven kills. Shelby Dierenfield was 19-19 serving with 11 ace serves, and Kai was 19-19 with six aces. Heather Ballantyne was 10-10 and Megrath 8-10 with two aces.
Erin Laursen had five sets for aces, and Tiffany Johnson led the defense with five blocks.
Coach Ireland said, "This was a fun win. We hit the ball well tonight, and our team serving was outstanding." The Bulldogs now have a 2-8 overall mark, and are 1-4 in Northwest Conference play.
R-A won the J.V. match, 20-22, 21-16, 9-15, and Aurelia took the C team match with game scores of 8-21, 25-23, 15-9.
