HOLSTEIN - The River Valley Wolverines came to town to meet Galva-Holstein, a team they had beaten in the Maple Valley Conference Volleyball Tourney on Saturday, and came out on the short end of a three-game sweep.

Galva-Holstein coach Scott Mitchell's Lady Pirate team won 25-21, 27-25, 25-13 over the River Valley squad.

Galva-Holstein was led by Heather Joslin with 12 kills and Lindsey Joslin with seven. Lindsey also led in digs with 17, and Brea Slaybaugh had nine. Lanae Broesder had 25 assists, Brandi Wagoner seven blocks and Victoria Andresen three, Ashley Buell had five ace serves, and the Joslin girls three apiece.

River Valley attacking was led by Jody Peterson, who had 12 kills. Peterson also led servers with a 15-16 night. Katie Carnes had 27 assists, and on defense, Charlee Brewer had six digs and Alissa Slota two.

G-H coach Mitchell said, "We served pretty aggressive tonight, which helped keep them out of their offense. Our blocking was much better tonight. Not only did we get blocks, we slowed down a lot of their attacks."

Gakva-Holstein now has a 16-7 record for the season and is 9-1 in MVC play.

G-H also won the freshman match, 2 games to 1, and the JV match, 3-0. The freshman squad now has a 7-1 season mark, and the JV is 4-1.

Both G-H and RV will compete in the River Valley Tournament in Correctionville on Saturday.
