The River Valley volleyball squad won five matches in pool play to advance to the semi-final round of the Maple Valley Conference Tournament Saturday.
RV beat Westwood 21-6, 21-18; Odebolt-Arthur 21-16, 8-21, 15-12; Whiting 21-16, 21-11; Woodbury Central 21-13, 22-24,15-10; and Galva-Holstein 23-21,16-21,15-9 to advance to play against West Monona.
That was the end of the line for coach Marlene Baumann's girls, though, as the Spartans prevailed in the semis by game scores of 14-21, 21-19, 5-15. Emily Todd served 10 aces in pool play to lead the Wolverines, while Alissa Slota had five aces and Charlee Brewer four. Pool play attacking was led by Jody Peterson, who landed 88 of 109 attempts, including 43 kills. Todd had 23 kills, Slota 16, Kaylea Simons 13, and Amber Bauer 12. Katie Carnes had 108 assists in the five Pool Play matches, and Charlee Brewer had 43 digs.
Brewer had six more digs in the semi-final match, and was 9/10 serving wih one ace serve. Todd was also 9/10, with two aces, and Slota and Simons had one ace apiece. Katie Carnes was 7/7 serving and had 14 assists, including an ace. The Wolverine attack was led by Peterson with 23/25 and 6 kills. Amber Bauer had three kills, and Todd and Slota had two kills each.
Coach Baumann said "We had a great day. We played together as a team, and everyone contributed. It was a lot of fun."
