Eagles run well at Alta meet

ALTA - Coach Ric Collins' Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Eagle cross country team braved a wet and muddy course at Alta on Monday to post some of their best times of the season.

Freshman Jay Welp finished third in the boys' varsity race with an outstanding time of 18:21, sophomore Tyler Brady ran strong and won the junior varsity race in 20:08, senior Jill Bird finished 10th in the girls varsity race with a time of 19:06, and sophomore Taylor Hanson ran a 19:41 to be the first JV girl to finish.

These four athletes, said Collins, "are doing a great job, leading us at practice and at the meets."

Other Eagle efforts in the girls' JV race included Danica Hanson 22nd in a time of 24:36, and Taryn Godberson 23rd in 24:56.

MMC finishers behind teammate Brady in the boys JV field included Steven Lively, 4th place (21:23); Tyrel Godberson,11th (22:33); Ben Mayer,14th (23:06); and David Peters,19th (27:19).

MMC next competes at the Kingsley-Pierson meet on Tuesday.
