Nelson leads Morningside women

MADISON, S.D. - Morningside College featured five of the top 13 runners on the way to winning the women's team championship at the Dakota State University Herb Blakely Invitational cross country race here Saturday.

Cherokee Washington High graduate Kara Nelson, a Mustang freshman, led the winners with a runner-up finish in the 5,000-meter race, in a time of 18:41.99.

A repeat all-stater in cross country and track and field, and a former state champion in the 3,000 meters for Cherokee, Nelson is the daughter of Jim and Sue Nelson of Cherokee.
