Sept. 29, 2007 was supposed to be Terry Nelson and Leah Manthei’s wedding day. Those plans changed when Leah was involved in a head-on collision on Sept. 12 near Worthington, Minn.

Leah was transported to Worthington Regional Hospital and then transferred to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. She arrived at Cherokee Regional Medical Center on Sept. 26, where she is currently recovering from her injuries.

Upon Leah’s arrival at CRMC, she and Terry decided that they did not want to wait any longer to get married. They arranged for a minister to perform the ceremony, contacted family members, and asked hospital staff about holding the ceremony at CRMC.

On Oct. 2, 2007, just a few short days after the original wedding date, Terry and Leah were married in the CRMC Education Room.

Thanks to a few creative hospital employees, the room was beautifully decorated for the special occasion.
