AURELIA - Aurelia volleyball coach Tim Ireland said his team “played our best volleyball of the year in the first part of the first game” Thursday night against Schaller-Crestland.

Unfortunately, Ireland said the Bulldog girls “had a mental letdown, and never got it back,” losing to their conference foe by game scores of 19-25, 8-25, 9-25.

Arielle Megrath had six kills and Leah Kai five to pace Bulldog hitters. Kai also had four ace serves and two blocks on the defensive side. Tiffany Johnson led Bulldog setters with 32, including three for aces, and Erin Laursen had 26, two for aces.

Shelby Dierenfield and Laursen topped blockers with four apiece, and Johnson matched Kai’s two blocks.

Ireland, whose team faced Laurens-Marathon at Laurens in the opening game of Tournament play on Monday Oct. 15, says his team “needs to play hard the whole night” in each match.
