HOLSTEIN - The Galva-Holstein Lady Pirates swept a 3-0 match from Lawton-Bronson to open their Class 1A District volleyball action here on Oct. 15, claiming hard-fought game scores of 25-16, 25-19, 30-28.

The winning Pirates connected on 90-102 hits and 42 kills in the match, while serving 72-77 for a 94-percent effort. The winners registered 48 digs and 42 team assists.

Heather Joslin led G-H in kills with 16, and Lindsey Joslin tallied 13. Lanae Broesder led in sets with 36 assists, Heather Joslin led in blocks with two, and Lindsey Joslin led in ace serves with four. Brea Slaybaugh totaled 14 digs to lead that category, and Heather Joslin had 13.

“I thought we played very well, especially with some nagging injuries,” said G-H coach Scott Mitchell. “We played with a lot of intensity, especially in game three, which was a thrilling game.

“Neither team’s hitters were getting cheated and were attacking well. The only bad thing is we missed four serves in game three. It was a good win over a good team.”

The G-H girls now sport a 21-16 match record and play the winner of the Alta-River Valley match in Alta on Oct. 23.
