Pirates get eighth XC victory; on to state

HOLSTEIN - The Galva-Holstein girls won their eighth cross country meet of the season here on Monday, and this was the biggest win of all. The meet was the District Cross Country Meet and the Lady Pirates' win sends the team to the State Cross Country meet Saturday in Fort Dodge.

The Lady Pirates scored 55 points to second-place West Sioux's 96. Boyer Valley placed third with 115 points. South O'Brien placed eighth, with 191 points.

Individually, freshman Jessie Mathes paced the G-H effort, placing fifth with a time of 16:29.8 over the 4k course. Ashley Drey was 7th, in 16:50.85, Jayde Boyle 8th, in 17:00.27, Maddy McAreavey 15th (17:41.81), and Breana Mathes 20th (18:05.80). Also running for G-H were Meagan Meyer, with a time of 18:14.1, and Annie McAreavey, 20:07.06.

South O'Brien's Ashton Lansink placed 27th, with a time of 18:42.08 and her teammate Amy Rienfield was 29th, in 18:44.86. The Wolverines' Kirsten Thomsen turned in a time of 19:11.66, Ashli Sloan 19:41.78, Heather Penning 19:45.61, Megan McCauley 20:01.13 and Jill Eldridge 20:10.37.

Other area runners included River Valley's Kaysi Byers (16:47.99) and Jessica Sievers (21:33.09); Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn's Jill Bird 18:53.12, Taylor Hanson 19:51.64, Danica Hanson 23:21.36, and Taryn Godberson 25:09.18; and Aurelia's Jessica Mann 20:44.27 and Erin Laursen, 22:20.21
