SOS XC boys to state

HOLSTEIN -- The Woodbine boys won the Class 1A District Cross Country Meet here Monday with a total of 63 points, with Ar-We-Va second with 66 points. Both teams will go to the State Meet this Saturday, held at Kennedy Park, north of Fort Dodge.

The third place team also goes to state, and that was South O'Brien, which scored 115 points. Andrew Peterson led SOS, running the 5k course in 17:40.31 for fifth place. Teammate Keagan Hicks was right behind in sixth in a time of 17:41.10. The other SOS runners include Reese Powers (18:31.96), Matt Cole (18:55.13), Cole Pleggenkuhle (19:36.46), James Patterson (20:52.60) and Kyle Einck (22:04.82).

The Galva-Holstein boys finished eighth in the team standings, and Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn was 15th.

Running for the Pirates were John Harris, who placed 15th in a time of 18:19.51; Andrew Galvin (18:53.56); Nate Braselton (19:20.98); Collin Bubke (19:29.64); Steven Galvin (19:55.27); Jamie Conlon (20:10.84); and Josh Mohr (20:23.02).

MMC was led by freshman Jay Welp, who toured the course in 19:15.63. The other Eagle runners were Tyrel Godberson (20:54.63); Steven Lively (22:12.96); Ben Mayer (22:19.54) and David Peters (17:02.42).
