G-H girls, SOS boys place

Pirates 8th, Wolverines 14th at 1A state XC meet

FORT DODGE - In Class 1A competition, the Galva-Holstein girls placed eighth and the South O'Brien boys 14th in their respective divisions at Saturday's four-class State Cross Country Meet here.

Council Bluffs St. Albert won the 1A girls team title with 84 points, followed by runner-up Valley Community with 98 points. The G-H girls totaled 197 points for eighth place.

Iowa City Regina won the 1A boys team crown with 55 points, followed by South Winneshiek with 82. The South O'Brien boys totaled 334 points for 14th place.

Jessica Mathes led the Lady Pirates to the finish line with a 37th-place finish in a time of 15:50. She was followed by teammates Ashley Drey 38th in 15:50, Jayde Boyle 55th in 16:11, Breanna Mathes 80th in 16:42, Madaline McAreavy 95th in 17:18, Meagan Meyer 100th in 17:26, and Annie McAreavy 111th in 17:53.

River Valley's Kasi Byers ran individually and placed 48th in a time of 16:03.

Andrew Peterson led the SOS boys to the finish line, placing 56th in 17:57, followed by teammates Keagan Hicks 74th in 18:10, Matt Cole 93rd in 18:45, Reese Powers 101st in 19:04, Cole Pleggenkuhle 112th in 19:42, James Patterson 120th in 21:09, and Kyle Einck 121st in 21:39.
