Joan Kauffman, 75, of Marcus, died on Nov. 16, 2007 at Heartland Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services were held Nov. 21 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marcus. Pastor Don Meyer officiated. Burial was in the Trinity Cemetery in Marcus.

Joan Bleasdell was born on a farm in Woodbury County on April 7, 1932, to Ernest and Orfa (Riordan) Bleasdell. She was educated in the Woodbury county schools and graduated from high school in Moville.

On Sept. 10, 1950 she married Loren Kauffman in Moville at the United Brethren Church. He preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2003. Loren and Joan taught snowmobile safety courses for many years. Joan cooked for the Marcus schools for 13 years. She enjoyed camping, jigsaw puzzles, cooking and spending time with her family. She lived around Marcus all her married life.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Frances Lang.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Lockhart and her husband, Tim, of Long Beach, Wash; Nancy Ah Chong and her husband, Puna, of Salt Lake City Utah; two sons, Randy Kauffman and his wife, Teresa, of Marcus and John Kauffman and his wife, Jodie, of Eagle Grove; two sisters, Carol Corbin of Kingsley and Mary Jane Stiener of Ohio; one brother, Rollie Bleasdell of Sioux City; grandchildren, Jamie Kauffman; Faleata Ah Chong; Tatiana Ah Chong; Puna Ah Chong, Jr.
