FT. DODGE - Jessica Hunecke had a great season last year for her Iowa Central Community College basketball team. She might even be better this year.
Hunecke, of Cherokee, earned the first of what may be several Player of the Week honors from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference last week. She had a pair of double-doubles (points and rebounds), as the
Tritons ascended to the No. 1 ranking in the country in NJCAA Div. II.
In a 111-48 win over Minneapolis Community College last Wednesday, both Hunecke and Kylie Dilla, freshman from Cherokee, had 14 points.
Iowa Central (7-0) is off to a tremendous start thanks mainly to Hunecke, 6-0 forward, who is second in the league in rebounds (10.3 avg.) and fourth in points (15.7). She's also among the conference leaders in assists (3.7), blocked shots (3.7) and steals (3).
The Tritons host Southeastern Community College (Burlington) Wednesday and travel to Beatrice, Neb. for two games Friday and Saturday.
