Memorial services for Loren Steemke, 89, Aurelia, were held Nov. 24, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia with Pastor Harold Werley officiating. A memorial fund has been established. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements. Loren died, Nov. 21, 2007, at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia, where he had been a resident since Feb. 2, 2005.

Loren Dale Steemke was born Aug. 15, 1918, the son of John R. and Emma C. (Kludas) Steemke in Cherokee. He graduated from the Cherokee High School in 1936. On Sept. 24, 1942 Loren married Arline Virginia Minard at the Methodist Church in Storm Lake.

He farmed in Iowa for thirty years before moving to California where he worked as an inspector for Lockheed Aircraft. He retired in August of 1980. Loren was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working, hunting, traveling, and following the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Preceding Loren in death were his parents, his wife Arline on July 6, 2007, and two sons, Ronald and Larry.

Survivors include his son Donald and his wife Lisa Steemke of Aurelia, daughter-in-law Susan Steemke of Aurelia and Los Angeles, Calif., six grandchildren, David Steemke of Grand Forks, N.D., Kelly Wallace of San Diego, Calif., Shannon Steemke of Gilbert, Ariz., Shawn Steemke of Aurelia, Christina Steemke of Littleton, Colo. and step-grandson Kevin Smith of Valley Springs, Calif., and one great-grandson, Sean Loren and Jacob Steemke of Aurelia, and other relatives and friends.
