Mary Hanson, 84, of Cherokee, died Dec. 10, 2007, at the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center, following a lengthy illness.

Services were held Dec. 14, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cherokee. Rev. Armand Bertrand officiated. Burial was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cherokee.

Mary was born on June 9, 1923 in rural Remsen, to Arthur and Ida (Wilberding) Delperdang. She was educated in Cherokee. On Nov. 10, 1943 she married Kenneth Hanson at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2007. Mary worked at the M.H.I. in the Dietary Department for many years and also cleaned houses. She lived in Cherokee for the majority of her life. Mary enjoyed babysitting, bingo, needlepoint, and cross-stitch.

Mary was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed listening to Polka music and participating in Bowling League.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother (Ray,) and a sister (Florance), a grandson (Lee Michael Carlson, 1978).

Survivors include sons, Ray Hanson, and his wife, Margaret, of Marcus; Robert Hanson, and his wife, Rosella, of Cherokee; Michael Hanson, and his wife, June, of Cherokee; daughters, Anne Newman, and her husband, Ray, of Sioux City; Mary Lou Carlson, and her husband, Albin, of Cherokee; Sharon Grauer, and her husband, Joel, of Silver City, sisters, Martha Tremain, of Seattle, Wash.; Elva Johnson, of Cherokee; Delores Sawvell, of Storm Lake; a brother, Arthur Delperdang, of Sioux City, 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
