HINTON - Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn boys basketballl coach Al Vasher said his Eagle team got off to a good start in the first quarter against Hinton here Friday, but had trouble holding it throughout the second quarter.
" I think the lack of experience and depth on our side really started to show in the second quarter," said the Eagle coach. We had some good looks at the hoop, but just couldn't get anything to fall."
Unfortunately for MMC, things did not get any better in the second half, as they scored only two points in the third quarter, and the final score was Hinton 76, MMC 30.
Individually, Jordan Boekhout led the team in scoring with 12 points, and also blocked two shots. Neal Bunt and Justin Henke led the Eagles in rebounding with three apiece. The Eagles committed 25 turnovers.
Vasher said the Eagles "didn't do a good job of taking care of the ball, and our decision making was not as crisp as it needs to be."
Vasher said he believes the boys are competing, but need to "raise the bar to the next level at some point." He is hopeful that the team "can start to put things together going into the (Christmas) break."
MMC hosts Akron-Westfield Friday night in a tough War Eagle Conference girls-boy encounter.
