STORM LAKE - Storm Lake had a nine-point lead over Cherokee after one quarter in Dec. 18th's Lakes Conference basketball action, and they pretty much held that lead through the rest of the game, posting a 73-61 win. Jordan Carlson scored 20 points to pace the Lakers' attack, while teammate Jesse Munger had 14 points and Will Hansen 10. Cherokee had four players score in double figures - Tyler Jones, 14 points, Matt Koch 13, Code Ege 12, and Matt Pitts 11. The loss dropped the Braves' season record to 0-6, while Storm Lake is now 4-3.
The Cherokee girls lost to the host Tornadoes in the opener, 64-54.
The Tornadoes got off to a 10-0 lead and Cherokee coach Jeremy Dettmer said the girls were never able to catch up, although they did cut the Lakers' lead to six or seven once in the fourth quarter. The Lakers now have a 3-4 conference mark this season, and the Cherokee girls are 0-6 in the conference.
Individually, Lacie Drennan scored 15, Nicole Hatch 13, and Shelby Dilla 13 for the Cherokee squad.
