'Pack the Pit' night at Marcus goes over well

Friday, December 28, 2007

MARCUS - Many activites were on the schedule for "Pack The Pit" night at Marcus on Thursday Dec. 20. Before any wrestling matches started, MMC alumni wrestlers in attendance were introduced, with the years they participated mentioned. The years of participation ranged from last

year's team members back into the early 1970's.

The future MMC wrestlers were then introduced, including those in the MMC Youth Wrestling room from pre-kindergarten through 8th graders. The future and past wrestlers more than covered the wrestling mat. As they faced the crowd, the National Anthem was sung by Alissa Brady and Emily Bush.

Following the second round of wrestling, a special presentation of MMC Booster T-shirts was made to Jim and Steve Smith, as a "Thank You" to them for all the years of tremendous support they have provided for all MMC activities. Making the presentation were cheerleaders Emily Peck and Alissa Brady.

Doug Manly of the Akron area refereed the matches on the 20th. Manly has refereed many, many meets at MMC over the last several years, and is retiring at the end of the 07-08 wrestling season.Special mention of this was made during the evening.

Before the final match of the evening the MMC Drill Team performed a routine. The music, sparkling tops, pom poms, and dance moves added a fun touch to the night. Many t-shirts, hats, coozies, sandwiches, and other donations from the community were distributed throughout the evening. Some of these items were tossed into the crowd, and some were

presented to holders of a drawn ticket number.Julie Letsche was the proud winner of a Minnesota West wrestling T-shirt donated by alum Tory Johnson, who is currently on the

wrestling team there. Three pizza parties were awarded to winners by class, based on their percentage of attendance. Those winning were: Mrs. Letsche's 4th grade,Mrs. Parrott's 5th grade, and the 8th graders from the Middle

School.116 elementary students registered their attendance that evening.

The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Boosters sends a big "Thank You" to all who were involved in making the "Pack The Pit"

night a success. Thanks to everyone who donated items, and all of those who came out to support our team!
