REMSEN - Granville Spalding drained a three-pointer at the buzzer in regulation to forge a 50-50 tie with the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn girls, and then recorded an 11-5 scoring advantage in the overtime period to claim a 61-55 win over the Eagles here last week.
The game was played in the Remsen-Union gym where MMC was the home team after the Eagle gym was flooded by water from a broken water main over the holidays.
Kaylee Dreckman led the MMC girls in scoring with 18 points, while Samantha Taylor added 16, and Jessica Zubrod 12. Jessica Fischer led the Spalding girls with 16 points, and Amy Stoll added 14.
Zubrod and Taylor led MMC in rebounding with six apiece, and Taylor also led in steals with four. Dreckman led in assists with three.
MMC led 11-10 after one quarter, and 23-16 at halftime, before taking a 39-30 lead into the fateful fourth frame where the Spartans outscored the Eagles 20-11 to force the tie and claim the OT victory.
"I like the fact we are getting some consistent production out of the seniors these last couple games and we are going to need them lead u on the road the rest of the season," said MMC coach Shane Williams.
The MMC teams play remsen St. Mary's in the Remsen-Union gym tonight, and Tuesday travel to Akron-Westfield for more tough War Eagle Conference action.
