Pauline "Gail" Rathjen, 64, of Ida Grove, died with her family at her side Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove following a courageous battle of cancer.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christensen Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove, with burial at Ida Grove Cemetery in Ida Grove. Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Gail was born on March 27, 1943 in Cherokee, the daughter of Garland "Skeets" and Pauline (Dreyer) Duvall. She attended Cherokee Community Schools.
She was united in marriage with Lou Rathjen on Aug. 4, 1973 near Cherokee, The couple moved to the Ida Grove area and made it their home together with the rest of their family.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also very involved with the Ida County Cancer Support Group and the Ida County Relay for Life, being honored as being named co-chair of that event a few years ago. She loved her flowers, her pets and calling on those who were ill and offer them encouragement and strength.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother, Tommy.
She is survived by her husband, Lou of Ida Grove; a son Tom "Brandon" Thomas of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter Elizabeth " Beth" Enneking of Marcus; and grandson Daniel Rector of Ida Grove, she is also survived by brothers Garland Duvall Jr. of Des Moines and Mike Duvall of Cherokee and sister Sherry Rupp of Quimby.
