Wilbur Amendt, 91 and his wife Delia 90, of Lakefield, Minn. both passed away on Jan. 19, 2008. Wilbur passed away on Saturday afternoon Jan. 19, at Colonial Manor in Lakefield. Delia passed away Saturday evening Jan. 19, 2008 at her home in Lakefield.

Funeral services were held Jan. 21 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rost Township, Jackson County,Minnesota.

Delia (Dee) Wilhemena Buckendahl Amendt, daughter of Henry and Erma Ripke Buckdendahl, was born on March 21, 1917 in rural Storm Lake. Delia was baptized and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. She attended Zion Lutheran Parochial school and later graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1936. Following her education, Delia worked as a maid in the Chicago and Storm Lake area and she was very active in Walther League as a young woman. She married Wilbur Amendt on Aug. 24, 1952 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. The family moved to Lakefield in 1953 and has resided here since.

Wilbur Wendell Christian Amendt, son of William and Bertha (Felton) Amendt, was born on Oct. 20, 1916 at Peterson. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Johns Church of Christ. He attended Brooke School south of Peterson and played basketball and baseball and graduated from high school in 1934. He married Florence Montgomery on March 18, 1941 at Silver Lake in Lake Park. Florence passed away on May 8, 1947. Wilbur then married Cleo Hade and they were later divorced. He then married Delia Buckendahl. Wilbur farmed until he retired in 1972.

Delia and Wilbur were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rost Township. She was active in LWML and various Ladies Clubs. Wilbur was active in church, enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. Blessed be their memory.

Delia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister Waldina Mahler and Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Florence and four sisters Birdline Straub, Mabel Luetkeman, Leona Ehrhardt and Bernice Stewart.

Delia and Wilbur are survived by two sons Richard (Peggy) Amendt of Lakefield, Minn. and Michael (Kay) Amendt of Calhan, Colo.; a daughter Kathryn (Byron) Christoffer of Worthington, Minn.; eight grandchildren Paul (Tammy) Amendt, Amy (John) Raduege, Kimberly (Trent) Schumacher, Dana (Kevin) Schmid, Shane (Crystal) Amendt, Matthew Amendt, Travis (Jessica) Amendt and Tye (Kimberly) Amendt; 13 great-grandchildren Andrew, Alexandra, Arianna, Zachary, Hailey, Hannah, Dakotah, Sarah, Leah, Isaiah, Mikaela, Morgan, Gracie, and numerous nieces and nephews; Delia is survived by a sister Selma Rice of Lakefield and a brother Herbert (Margaret) Buckendahl of Storm Lake; and Wilbur is survived by a sister Vernice Larsen of Cherokee.
