AURELIA - Senior Greg Kolpin's jump shot at the buzzer gave the Aurelia Bulldog boys an exciting 47-46 win over Northwest Conference rival Schaller-Crestland in basketball action here Friday night.
The Bulldogs led for most of the game, but the Wildcats had dropped in a three-pointer with a few seconds left to take a 46-45 lead, but the 'Dogs stormed right back and won the game on Kolpin's shot.
Aaron Bruce led Bulldog scoring with 18 points, including 3-4 three-point attempts. Camrin Meyer almost had a double-double for the 'Dogs, scoring 10 points, but coming up one rebound short, as he led the 'Dogs on the boards with nine. Aaron Bruce had six boards. Jared Bruce also came close to a double-double, scoring nine points and dishing out 10 assists. The senior point guard also had five steals
Senior point guard Leah Kai scored 19 points to pace the Bulldog attack, and freshman Audrey Winterhof was next with seven points. Kai also led the team with six assists, blocked a shot and had two steals. Erin Laursen led Bulldog rebounders with eight, while Tiffany Johnson had five boards and Meghan Glawe four. Johnson, Laursen, and Winterhof each had two steals on defense, and Glawe blocked one shot.
Freshman Egypt Clayton scored 20 points for Schaller-Crestland, including 10-10 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Sydney Shell scored 12 points and freshman Roxanne Grundmeier 11 to give the Wildcats three double-figure scorers.
The Aurelia teams travel to Remsen-Union on Thursday to take on Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn in a non-conference Cherokee County tussle.
