Wanda I. Friend 86, Primghar, passed away on Jan. 30, 2008 at her home in Primghar.

Funeral services were held on Feb. 2 at the Church of Christ in Primghar, with Rev. John Byrd officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar.

Wanda Ione Friend, the daughter of Judson and Stella (Boyce) Shannon was born Aug. 15, 1921 in Folsom, Iowa. She received her education at Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs. Wanda was united in marriage to Johnnie Arrick, and later married Raymond Friend.

Wanda worked as a cook at the Cherokee Villa and other nursing homes and restaurants, before she retired in 1993. She has resided in Primghar for the last nine years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Primghar and the Friendship Circle; she was also a member of the Women's V.F.W. Auxiliary in Cherokee. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and she loved her dog, Toby.

She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, a son, Edward Boyce Arrick; her parents, three brothers, Raymond, Clayton and Judson; and three sisters, Edith, Leora and Lois.

Wanda leaves to cherish her memory her three children and their spouses, Judy and Hank Phipps; Harry and Connie Arrick; Cheryl and Michael Wilbur all of Primghar; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
