Bartel closing in on 1,000 points

SIOUX CITY - Autumn Bartel, 5-8 junior guard from Cherokee, has scored 983 points during her Morningside College career to rank 18th on the college's all-time scoring list.

She needs 17 more points to become the 18th women's basketball player in Morningside history to score 1,000 career points. Bartel is 151 points behind Nicole Newberg's 17th place total of 1,134 points. Bartel has averaged 10.8 points per game during her Morningside career.

Bartel is the Mustangs' leading scorer with an average of 12.6 points per game, and leads the Mustangs with 18 double figure scoring performances. Bartel is one of the Mustangs' best 3-point field goal shooters with 39 treys in 87 attempts for 44.8 percent. Her accuracy mark from beyond the 3-point arc is way up from her career figure of 35.3 percent entering the season.

Aside from her scoring exploits, Bartel ranks second on the team with 76 assists and third with 56 steals for averages of 3.2 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
