HOLSTEIN - The busy Galva-Holstein girls bounced Remsen-Union 64-39 in a Maple Valley Conference tussle here on Feb. 5th that ended the regular season for both clubs.
The Lady Pirates jumped to an 18-13 lead in the first quarter, and ballooned that to 35-19 at halftime. A 29-20 scoring advantage for the Pirates in the second half told the final story.
Brandi Wagoner continued her hot scoring streak, leading the Pirates with 18 points, while Heather Joslin added 15, Alyssa Martin nine, and Lindsey Joslin and Breanna Mathes eight apiece.
Heather Joslin fashioned an impressive double-double in the game, pocketing 12 rebounds, while Mathes grabbed nine, and wagoner seven. Wagoner also had four blocks, and Lindsey Joslin led her team in steals with six. Brooke Wiese led G-H in assists with three.
The Rockets made 19-44 field goals for 43 percent, and cashed in 1-6 free throws. G-H shot an amazing 80 field goals and netted 26 of those for 33 percent, to go along with a 13-23 effort from the foul line.
"This was another nice win for us," said G-H coach Ken Slater. "The girls came out and played a full game, offensively, and played some tough defense in spurts. It was nice to see some balance offensively. We were able to get Brandi back on track as she worked hard inside to get some offense going."
