Bartel joins Mustang 1,000 point club

SIOUX CITY - Autumn Bartel, a 5-8 junior guard from Cherokee, became the 18th women's basketball player in Morningside College history to score 1,000 career points during the Mustangs' 104-62 victory over 24th-ranked Doane College on Feb. 9.

Bartel scored 22 points in the contest to raise her career total to 1,009 points, She has averaged 10.8 points per game over her 93-game Morningside career. Bartel made three 3-pointers in the win against Doane as the Mustangs set a new single-game record with 19 team 3-pointers.

Bartel is averaging a team-high 12.7 points per game for a Morningside team that is currently ranked third in the nation in NAIA Divison II with a 24-2 record. The Mustangs are tied with Northwestern College atop the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) standings with 14-0 league records. the two meet in a showdown in Sioux City on Feb. 20.
