Donald O. Nord, of Hot Springs, Ark., died on Feb. 2, 2008 at the Golden Nursing Home in Hot Springs, Ark. A memorial service is scheduled for March 6, 2008 at the VFW Post Home in Hot Springs, Ark. Burial will be in the Arkansas Memorial Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Ark.
Born December 7, 1931 in Lamberton, Minnesota. He attended Sunnyside Grade School in Cottonwood County, Minnesota. In 1944, the family moved from the farm to Cherokee and he attended and graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee. He was a communicant of the Lutheran Church; entered the U.S. Army in 1952, serving his country in the Korean Conflict as harborcraft crewman. He was wounded in action and honorably discharged in 1955.
He was married to Geneva Capehart and there were three children, Michael, Claus and Sharon. Geneva preceded him in death. In 2003, he was united in marriage to Tawana Wilson of Hot Springs. He was a loyal member of the VFW and served the local post in the VFW Honor Guard. He succumbed to complications of cancer and foot infection.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Geneva; a son, Claus Leroy Nord; his mother and father; brother, Melvin Nord; sister, Dolores (Nord) Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Tawana; a son, Michael Don Nord of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Sharon Palmer of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; two grandchildren, Amanda Tyson of Little Rock and Scott Tyson of Hot Springs Village; one brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Trudie Nord of Storm Lake; two sisters, Lillian Nord Peterson of Aurelia and Mildred Nord Palmer of Hot Springs Village; one aunt, Irene Keller Nord Seibold of Tucson, Ariz.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
