AURELIA - The final season statistics for the Aurelia High School varsity basketball teams have been released by coaches Grant Peckenschneider and Tim Galvin.
Senior point guard Leah Kai led the Bulldog girls in scoring with 281 points, an average of 13.4 ppg. Freshmen Meghan Glawe and Audrey Winterhof were second and third on the team, averaging 6.3 ppg and 5.7 ppg, respectively. Seniors Tiffany Johnson and Kaitlin Sandine averaged 4.6 and 3.8 points per game, respectively.
Glawe paced the 'Dogs in rebounding with 195 boards, an average of 9.3 per game, while Kai grabbed 108 (5.1) and sophomore Erin Laursen 98 (4.7). Kai also led the team in assists with 83 (3.9), steals (39/1.9), and blocked shots (19/1.9).
For the Bulldog boys, junior Aaron Bruce led the team in scoring with 343 points, an average of 16.3 points per game. Aaron's brother Jared, a senior, scored 261 points (12.4 ppg). Junior Camrin Meyer averaged 7.9 ppg and led 'Dog rebounders with 138, an average of 6.6 per game. Aaron Bruce had 114 boards, a 5.4 per game average. Jared Bruce had 78 rebounds (3.7 rbg).
Jared also led the team by a wide margin in assists, dishing out 124 for a 5.9 per game average, and in steals, pilfering 93 for a per game average of 4.4. Meyer blocked 16 shots and Aaron Bruce 13.
Northwest Conference policy states that the All-Conference selections will be released to the public when all conference schools have completed their seasons. The Newell-Fonda girls won their first round game at the State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines Monday to advance to today's semi-finals.
