The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors approved the 2008-2009 county budget on Tuesday March 4. The $11,360,842 budget was approved after a public hearing during which no opposition to the proposed budget was raised.

The public meeting was held at 9:05 a.m. during the regular Supervisors meeting at the lower level of the Cherokee County Courthouse.

The budget will require tax rates of rural areas to pay $8 per thousand of values while urban areas will pay $5 per thousand taxable values. This is a 1.5-cent higher increase per thousand of value. Countywide levies are $2,814,198 while rural only levies are $1,307,872.

Other business on the Board's agenda was the approval of a Master Matrix scoring for Open Range and D & J Pork farms.

The Board approved the hiring of a new employee for the Cherokee County Treasurer's office and authorized a wage adjustment for the Treasure's office. Authorization was also given for a new employee for the Cherokee County Auditor's office. Those two new employees will be hired in the near future.

The meeting came to a close shortly after hearing from County Engineer Larry Clark on general county business.
