CMS students to Choir Festival

Kaitlan Kennebeck, right, daughter of Doug and Monica Kennebeck, and Libby Peterson, daughter of John and Karen Peterson, both of Cherokee, have been selected to participate in the North Central Regional Elementary Honor Choir Festival of the American Choral Directors Association. The festival will be held this weekend in Fargo, ND, and will conclude with a concert performed by the Honor Choir. Fifth and Sixth grade students from a six-state region, including North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin auditioned for the 68 spots available in this choir.

Guest director will be internationally recognized choral director, Henry Leck, associate professor and Director of Choral Activities at Butler University. Mr. Leck conducts the Butler University Choir, and is widely know as a specialist in choral techniques, the child's voice and the boy's changing voice. He is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Indianapolis Children's Choir, which is now a program of 1200 children in twelve choirs. The Indianapolis Children's Choirs have performed concert tours in Wales, England, Scotland, France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Australia, Norway, New Zealand, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, and throughout the U.S. Photo contributed
