Roderick Q. Waller, 88, of Cherokee and former long time rural resident of Quimby, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at his home with family by his side.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 24 at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. Rev. Ethan Sayler will officiate. Burial was in the Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to the Memorial Presbyterian Church or the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund.

Roderick was born Feb. 15, 1920 in rural Cleghorn, to Joseph Aaron and Ethel (Booth) Waller. He attended rural School in Tilden Township and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1938. He was married to Phyllisjune Wallen on Oct. 28, 1945 at the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, rural Marcus. Roderick worked in a garage for a short time and then farmed in Grand Meadow Township for 65 years, retiring in 1999. The couple moved to Cherokee in 2006. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and long time elder of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He was a 50-year member of the Little Sioux Lodge #521 at Washta, Abu-Bekr Shrine Temple of Sioux City, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star at Alta. He was also a Farm Bureau member. He enjoyed traveling, carpentry work, camping, photography, collecting antiques and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Aaron Waller and a sister Vivian Christian.

He is survived by his wife Phyllisjune and five children: David Waller and his wife Sheryl of Bailey, Colorado; Peggy Ethel Worthington and her husband Bruce of Centennial, Colo.; Janet Kay Galles and her life partner Clip Schreuder of Aurelia; Beth Harger and her husband Jim of Greeley, Colo.; Wayne Waller of Cherokee; 12 grandchildren: Mike & Mandy Archer, Matt and Kristen Archer, Mikelle Archer, Sarah Galles, Luke Galles and fiancÚ Michelle Shoults, Jonathan Waller, Jennifer Waller, Jessica & Bobby Fann, Roderick Harger, Jami & Jerry Vigil, Jacqueline Harger & life partner Michael Johnson, Alexander Harger; nine great-grandchildren: Brinleigh, Jackson, Taylor, Riley, Camie, Ahnika, Ena, Rowa, Autumn; and one brother Max Waller and his wife Donna of Cherokee; two sisters-in-law: Billie Waller of Marcus; Veramay Rouse of Fort Dodge.
